William Oberst
I am a narrative realist oil painter who adapts Old Master layer-painting to contemporary subjects. My main focus is people.

Besides oil paintings, you'll find work here in other media, particularly watercolor.

There's also a 20-minute film. Titled “The Painter’s Vision," it explores the deep connection between how painters see, and what you see when you look at art.

Shown here: "Man At Window," oil on linen, 40 x 50 in., 2014. Detail views are in the Portfolio section.

This and two other paintings ("Moving Day" and "Four Seated People") were retained by Touch Art Gallery, 281 Concord Avenue, Cambridge, MA for display following the close of my recent solo show at the gallery. Thank you Touch!
