William Oberst
I'm a Post Contemporary, representational painter working mainly in oils. My subject is people, whom I depict in sometimes highly contrived situations (and sometimes not).

My other pursuit is philosophical: trying to understand how representational art communicates with viewers. In particular, I'm developing a conceptual platform from which to address consciousness in representational painting--a framework that (hopefully) neurobiologists and art historians alike will find useful. A 20-minute film titled “The Painter’s Vision" (link above) explains where I'm going.

Shown here: "Man At Window," oil on linen, 40 x 50 in., 2014. Detail views are in the Portfolio section.
